CM Mamata Banerjee went to Magma House at 24 Park Street on a surprise visit straight from the charred Burrabazar Rituraj Hotel. She said, "I got information that the whole building is a tinderbox with a small staircase & only 2 lifts. Many restaurants have stored cylinders, which may cause a fire". On being asked if restaurants are being sealed, CM said, “I am instructing Kolkata police, mayor of KMC & Fire minister to immediately sit, investigate & take action.”
Magma house has over a dozen restaurants & lounges, viz M Bar, LMNOQ, Papaya, Bombastic, Moti Mahal, 145, Raasta, Burma Burma Restaurant, Ping's Cafe Orient, The Gazeboo, Yeti. More than a thousand, especially youngsters, throng daily & many more on weekends.
